Psalmopoeus irminia, or the Venezuelan Suntiger, is a striking tree-dwelling species known for its vivid colors and unique patterns. Found in Venezuela, Guyana, and more recently in Brazil, it stands out with its sleek black body and bold orange stripes giving it a tiger-like appearance. As captivating as it is, this spider’s quick movements and defensive nature make it one to admire from a safe distance. Despite being a New World species, it lacks urticating hairs and relies on speed, threat postures, and potent venom for defense, making it more similar to Old World tarantulas in temperament. They are fast, skittish, and capable of jumping, so not for the faint hearted.
