About us

Welcome to Up in the Trees! We are a small, family-run business launched online in 2024, built on a lifelong passion for arboreal tarantulas.

You could say we’ve always had our heads in the canopy—we simply look up to all things arboreal!

Our journey with tarantulas started way back in 1994 with our very first spider: a Poecilotheria regalis (Indian Ornamental). Shortly after, in 1996 or 1997, we had the privilege of attending our first British Tarantula Society (BTS) exhibition—and from that moment on, we were completely hooked.

Like so many keepers before and after us, it started with “just one…” then quickly turned into two, five, ten, and beyond! Before long, our collection grew to include incredible species like the Psalmopoeus cambridgei (Trinidad Chevron) and many other arboreal icons.

Over the decades, we’ve watched tarantula husbandry evolve, trends shift, and care standards advance. Through all these changes, our dedication to these magnificent invertebrates has only grown stronger.

In speaking with customers and fellow hobbyists, we’ve learned that many newer collectors have a real apprehension about arboreal tarantulas—especially Old World species—due to their incredible speed and willingness to defend themselves.

We believe that education brings respect, not fear. Arboreal spiders are some of the most fascinating, beautiful, and rewarding creatures to keep. Our mission is to bridge the gap between fear and fascination through clear guidance, proper setup advice, and safe handling practices.

Moving forward, we intend to learn, grow, and evolve alongside the tarantula community. At Up in the Trees, you will find:

  • Curated Husbandry Gear: A carefully chosen selection of the most practical, high-quality products we personally trust and use.
  • Captive-Bred Stock: Healthy, beautiful, captive-bred arboreal tarantulas to help you grow your collection responsibly.
  • Educated Guidance: Honest, experienced advice to help you make confident, informed decisions before bringing a new spider home.

Whether you’re taking your first steps with a New World arboreal or adding a prized Old World species to your collection, we’re here to support you every step of the way.
